Since 1990, women farmers have met at Gatherings held throughout Victoria to share common interests, exchange information, celebrate their contribution to their farms and communities, and regenerate their energies in the face of continuing rural crises. A measure of the significance of these Victorian Gatherings has been the emergence of similar gatherings in other states around Australia, and the organisation of the world’s first ‘Women in Agriculture’ conference in Melbourne in 1994.
The stories on this website are from women who have attended these gatherings. Rural women are welcome to contribute and share their story. By doing so you are enriching our lives and that of future generations of rural women. These stories typify the spirit of rural women in overcoming the burden of isolation and hardships... economic, natural etc. in providing a loving and caring environment they keep their families and their communities together.
